As the status of the COVID-19 virus continues to change on a day-by-day basis, and businesses start to adapt to a new way of working, we wanted to share a little about things here at Weglot.

Firstly, we hope you are all keeping safe. It’s certainly been a very humbling period of time for all of us around the world. Whilst we can’t change the situation, we can help by staying at home as much as possible to help our health systems as much as possible.

In terms of business, whilst for our team nothing changes and we’re lucky enough to be able to continue working remotely, we do understand and sympathize immensely with companies that cannot carry on and we can’t even begin to imagine the impact this pandemic will have on people all over the world.

In particular, how the virus will change the way many of our users do business and the communities we’ve enjoyed helping and watching grow over the last few years of working within our industry.

Something we wanted to do in the hope of supporting the situation where we can – is to offer temporary Weglot accounts to any website related to providing information about COVID-19. We feel it’s important to be able to read key information in any language at this critical time – especially for those communities where a common language isn’t always shared. We’re not doctors – so if we can help with our very small contribution to the global effort – we’ll be very happy to do so.

How we’re working

The safety of the team here at Weglot is of the utmost importance and as we’re based in Paris, France we’ve been following government protocol from day one. This means that we’re all working from home and have been doing so for more than a week already.

It’s important for us to reassure you that we’re working as usual and remain available throughout our normal working hours. Nothing has changed at Weglot and we’re continuing to support new and old users during this period of change.

It may mean we’re not sitting together as a team, but we’re constantly in contact with each other (thanks to Slack and Zoom) to make sure we’re giving you the same service we always have. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to us as normal.

Community events

From day one we’ve supported numerous WordCamp meetups and CMS community events happening all over the world.

Thomas Fanchin, Partnership Manager at Weglot works daily with these communities:

“Naturally, we’ve been receiving lots of emails about WordCamps, meetups and other events being cancelled and/or postponed over the course of the following months. But, our goal at Weglot remains the same: keep supporting local communities!

This also extends to our own events. At the end of March, we wanted to hold our first Weglot meetup in our office here in Paris but, because of the situation we quickly cancelled the idea of a physical event and instead decided to move to an online event inspired by other meetups organizers. (Watch this space!)

In true community spirit, many of the local events we were supporting have decided to offer an online event instead – now more than ever it’s important to share information, ideas and support each other where we can.

So if you are confined at home and you still want to travel the world, you could spend an evening in Porto virtually, where the Porto WordPress meetup is being held. Or maybe “fly” to the UK and have a quick online chat during the London WordPress virtual meetups!”

The next few months are certainly not going to be easy for business around the world as we adapt to new ways of working and living. We remain positive in these difficult circumstances and hope you are all safe.
